i outlived my life a winner at night
a loser in my youth, unhappily
i lost my legs below the knee
the diabetes got to me
out of juvie, into jersey, then rollin thru the studio
i dress up, harassed on the 4th floor
to take the staircase down, past the stagedoor
toward the care that will outlast me in a dream
i hit on the road, watched race explode
placated by the soul of belonging to the team
chick died, then benny ensured i'wd run the orchestra
my 1st husband was a mobster
the 2nd toured the world with oscar
my father & mother, they both died when we were young
they were both all asses & elbows
i couldn't cut out of that scene quite quick enough
when i go back into the surgeon
then i'm just tryin to make some worth
so i cn match the healing gaze while feelin tough
i outlived my life
